About Tabula Rasa

Tabula Rasa is a massively multiplayer online action game that takes you into the heat of battle at the frontlines of an epic war between a xenophobic alien race bent on galactic conquest and the coalition of rebel soldiers who've traveled across the galaxy to stop them.

Combining the action of a first person shooter and the immersion of a role-playing game, Tabula Rasa takes the player on an intergalactic adventure where the individual has an opportunity to significantly impact the pace of battle on a global scale. Players enter the game as rebel soldiers wielding a variety of futuristic weapons, potent demolitions and the mystical power of "Logos". It is up to each individual to use their stealth, ingenuity and skill to assist a ragtag coalition of rebels in their efforts to stop an enemy known for its intelligence and unyielding determination to enslave the Universe.

Features:
  • Go to the frontlines of a futuristic war in a massively multiplayer war game that combines the character growth of an RPG with the action of a shooter.
  • Players will participate in large scale battles with NPC allies against an intelligent enemy known as The Bane for control of entire planets.
  • Players will go behind enemy lines in missions that directly impact the war effort, either solo or with teammates.
  • Rich storyline and fictional universe features Richard Garriott’s signature creative vision and attention to detail.
  • It's not all guts and guns; a mysterious power known commonly as "Logos," allows players to harness the very fabric of the cosmos to offer rebel forces an advantage against an overwhelming foe.
  • Simplified game interface is complimented by built-in voice chat technology to create a seamless cooperative gaming experience.
Benefits
  • Role-playing game fans will enjoy a game design that focuses more on depth than complexity, with an immersive story and rich character growth driven by player choices.
  • First person shooter fans who crave a richer gaming experience will appreciate a massively multiplayer game that is reactive to player choices and allows for a broad range of character movement. They'll also find FPS standards including explosions, vehicles and big guns.
  • Massively multiplayer online game fans will enjoy being able to garner rare collectibles and inventory, a large community to interact with, and frequently updated content to both the game and the storyline.
Registering with MMORPG.COM is free so don't worry, you've nothing to lose (except for precious precious time.)

I played TR in closed and open beta quite a bit, but I think I might have been a little too hard core for the game (seeing that my friends and I made it past 30 in a couple days). For casual, sci-fi loving player, I think, there's enough to keep a person occupied for about a month or two (like you out there, waiting for the WAR open beta.) And FPS enthusiasts, despite it's designation, it's sticky targeting (i.e., I can look at that tree growing in Brooklyn and still hit shit...at least when I was playing that is.)

It's not a bad game, just not incredibly good, and I found it kinda' boring after a while. I don't think it was worth it's original price tag or the monthly fee, but right now you can purchase the whole game with the 1st month free for under $20 if you know where to look.

p.s. Yes, I am guilty of being a disgruntled Engineer. :(

Tabula Rasa: Beat the Shit out of Richard Garriott

This is probably the best marketing this game could ever do. After all, after playing that POS beta for so long and watching the game go from fun to...retarded ass, who wouldn't want to beat the shit out of him. For free! Hope he doesn't ban you foos for trying. xp

Join us for one final peek of Richard Garriott’s Tabula Rasa®!

In anticipation of next week’s launch of Tabula Rasa we would like to invite you to join us in our end of beta event. The Tabula Rasa team will be playing and challenging you to take on General British himself on Friday, October 26, 2007 from 10:00 PM to 11:59 PM Central Time. If you haven’t had the opportunity to play the beta, sign up with FilePlanet now!

There will be other surprises, so make sure to log-in during our last week in Beta. Beta keys are available through FilePlanet.

The old article:

One of the most famous characteristics of Lord British is that he is supposed to be indestructible. In every Ultima game that he has appeared in, he is designed to be unkillable by the player character. However, there are ways for a player “thinking outside the box” to assassinate him.

Lord British was killed during an in-game appearance on Ultima Online‘s beta test on August 8, 1997. A royal visit was conducted as a part of server population stress test. A player character known as Rainz cast a spell called “fire field” on Lord British that, surprisingly, killed him. According to Starr Long, the whole thing was just a human error: Lord British’s character, like others, had been made invulnerable, but by design the invulnerability did not persist over several game sessions. Shortly before the incident, the server had crashed, and Richard Garriott had forgotten to set his invulnerability flag on when logging on again. Shortly afterwards, Rainz’s account was banned from the beta test for previously exploiting bugs rather than reporting them (infamously used by his character Aquaman to kill many player characters, a purported griefing incident). According to Origin, he was not banned for the assassination but rather for previous complaints against his account that were brought to light as a result of this attention. The massive amount of lag, caused by the stress test, was a factor in Lord British’s death, as well as the guards being deactivated in the area, which allowed Rainz to steal, avoiding immediate death. 99% of the players were at Lord British’s castle. Only the few at Lord Blackthorn’s castle were the lucky witnesses to this historic event. Those known to have been present besides Lords British and Blackthorn were their jesters Chuckles and Heckles and the following players; Rainz, Dr.Pepper, Mental, DemonSoth, Helios, Phobos, Gildoreal, Wind Lord and Kylan.

Tabula Rasa: Release Delayed to 11/2/07

I wish they'd take a little longer.

Sauce:

Many of you have heard my mantra for game development: "Stable, Fast, Fun. In that order." We need a little more time to make that happen.

To this end we are moving our Pre-Order headstart date to 10/30/07 and our commercial service start date to 11/2/07. This short but critical amount of time will give us time to address several issues including stability and balance as well as allowing our players to test the continent of Ligo (L38+) and our major changes to crafting for a few weeks rather than a few days. Our entire development staff feels this extra time is needed as does our beta community. We feel confident that this extra time will make a difference on launch day.

That said we are excited about launching the game and moving into a "live" environment where the entire future of the AFS is ahead of us. Expect more posts from Richard Garriott, Paul Sage, and other dev staff over the next few days as they discuss plans for elder content and content updates both long and short term. One of us will also be posting to the website every Friday in order to directly address your feedback, which you can submit via the Feedback Form found here on the RGTR.com website.

See you in game as we wrap up this final leg of testing and get ready for the end-of-beta blow out!

Mail Call: Pre-Order Pet Pictures Revealed

Initial Reaction:

WHY THE FUCK WOULD I WANT A FUCKIN' PINE-OCK PET. It's got 4 fuckin' scrotums on its ugly ass face.

And now that I'm calm....

First off, I think that Jabba the Hutt is hot and that WoW Ogres are *le rawr* sexy minxes (the only reason I played so long) so my sense of aesthetics is obviously messed up. But to my Hello Kitty brain washed head,Pine-Ocks are still ugly as all fuck.

I'm not sure why they didn't make our pre-order "reward" a cute (and some what kinda' delicious looking) Lognar or an adorable Treeback Cub (which also would probably taste good dipped in chocolate or wrapped in bacon.) Instead they dangled a cute sounding word (Pine-Ock)and then sandbagged us with a literal dick face.

*sad*

And no, I wouldn't eat a Pine-Ock. And the Shell-Bot would make my lips puffy. xp

Tabula Rasa: End of Beta Dated

To be October 12th by mod Critters in this thread inquiring about the game's official release date.

But what amazes me is not the ass kissing, but how someone with the intelligence (?) to purchase the pre-order to play/sign up on Gamespot to play and then start a thread could not simply search for TR's release date on their own without employing the almighty power of the 1337 TR community.

Idiocracy the movie is not far off I see.

Tabula Rasa: Podcast & Beta Reflections/Rant

So, a little earlier on, SIRADIO.FM had CuppaJo, Critters and FireLotus on live answering questions from the "players." I guess what they meant to say was that they were answering questions from "ass kissing" players about retarded ass shit that have only been asked and answered 50 bajillion fuckin trillion times on the fuckin' forums because no one had the balls to ask (and promptly got ignored for) important ass questions like me and my guildies such as:

"How do you shot web?"
"When does Jorgen [from AOC] come on?"
"When will Hellgate Beta start?"
"When does RG:TR come out in Colombia?" (Only it was asked in Spanish.)
"How come the control points aren't handi-accessible?" (Which my friend in a wheelchair was quite curious to know.)

Instead, burning questions such as:

"How do I unstuck myself?"
"Will there be housing?"
"Will there be vehicles?"

And super duperly awesome issues like:

Christmas Time + The Bane in Santa Hats
No Pants (FYI, this was funny none times.)

Were addressed.

Insert 45 minutes moar of ass kissing, insipid giggling and crappy music.

WTF.

Now, I ain't gonna lie--my guildies and I had a lot of fun laffing at stupid people on the podcast and in the game (the dumb fuck we told to increase DEX and CON to and her responses were pretty hilarious as well), but then, after reminding each other we were going to hell, we felt sad and empty for all the dumb shits around us.

But seriously, if you're a fuckin' tester/gamer read the fuckin' boards. All the answers are there and some of them 10 times (some even 50 gazillion, like "When are the play sessions?"). If you can't be motivated to read the boards to help test (I have 3 jobs, 8 mortgages and 17 kids--wah wah) then GTFO. Don't fuckin' sign up to test the fuckin' game.

Seriously. What the fuck is wrong with beta testers and why are there so many fuckin' morons? Ass kiss ass kiss. How do I unstuck? LOLOLOLOLOLOL. How do I shoot my gun? LOLOLOLOL. How do I collect loot?

Hey, I got no problem helping peeps who actually look like they're trying to explore the game on their own but some people....

WHY DON'T YOU FUCKIN' TRY TO "PLAY" THE GAME BEFORE YOU FUCKIN' ASK FOR YOUR FUCKIN' CANDY ASS TO BE WIPED?

For most non mouth breathers, if something doesn't work, they try to find a solution for why that certain something doesn't work often coming up with multiple solutions/theories/scenarios before asking for help. And yet this influx of babies who can't even figure out how to use the WASD after its explained in Boot Camp are pathetic and should apply for a 60th trimester abortion. (TM.)

Grr. I know NC/Destination wants their money (and obviously, other companies want want their moneyz too) so they offer this pre-order beta shit or these anyone can apply for closed beta if they subscribe to this gaming site deals, but damn, it hurts my wittle brain to deal with these morons when /ignore doesn't work all the time.

And in other news, for the end of beta event there's supposedly some concurrent podcast going on SIRADIO.FM as well.

Oh, and the next patch is 9/25/07.

BLARRGGH. Time for sleeps.

Tabula Rasa: Random Gorgeous Screenshot of Moi

Every so often I forget to fight and am entranced by my own beauty.

Gorgeous!

Despite all the lousy reviews this game is getting, my friends and I still enjoy it, especially since I switched from Medic (which I played during the Closed Closed Beta) to Sapper en route to Engineer. So much more excitement despite the craptastic crab mines (as Fuchikoma cute as they are.)

Tomorrow we dine in Eloh Vale. Take that Bane!

And if you happen to be hanging out and about Arieki, come visit!

A Very Special Tabula Rasa Event....

********CONFIDENTIAL********
Message from General British:

Attention AFS Soldiers!

We have received intel that indicates the Bane are preparing for a massive invasion force tomorrow, September 8, 2007. Our surveillance team reports that the enemy appears to be planning to deploy in the Wilderness area. It’s going to be messy out there. You may expect the worst, but know that we will be led by one of our best and brightest – SFC Sara Morrison.

Report to Wilderness at 8:00PM to 10:00PM, Central Time.

So, yesterday, in order to test the servers, the folks at TR staged a gigantumongous Bane invasion ripe with Juggernauts, Stalkers and Predators. The GMs were having a field day dropping all sorts of level 20-30 monstrosities in the 1-10 area. Good times were had!

At least, that is what I heard from those who got to play because, like many others, I wasn't able to log in. Correction, I was logged in and then when the first group of sexiness dropped, everything stalled to a halt and I got the dreaded Python something error and my game crashed.

HURRAY.

I had to do *gasp* real life stuff. BASTARDS! How could they!?

Tabula Rasa: NA Release Date October 19th, 2007

I saw this on 4Gamer:

"Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa," currently being developed by NCSoft. Release day has finally come for this SF MMORPG crafted by Garriott, who helped to build up the foundations of Computer RPGs through the Ultima Series. According to a statement issued by Garriot himself, the North American release date will be 10/19/2007. Those who pre-ordered (reserved) the game will be able to start playing on 10/16/07.

And dismissed it (due to a number of unmentionable reasons.)

Apparently, I made another ass of me and you because now the news is all over the damn place except for the official boards themselves. According to 3rd party sources, NDA has been lifted as well at midnight last night...but of course, nothing official. Did Garriott get drunk at his own party and blurt out a couple things he shouldn't have? Or do they truly have the confidence to make this happen by then....

Hmmmm. More investimagations must be done!

UPDATE 8:48 AM

09/06/07 08:40 AM

The reports are true. A Press Release is due out this morning. The press were given this info at the Pre-Release Press Extravaganza last night at RG's house. The website will change today.

Tabula Rasa: Closed Beta Walkthrough by Richard Garriott

These are from GameTrailers and explain the game because I'm not allowed to. (Yet.) It's long and broken into three parts.

Part 1: The Introduction

Part 2: Instanced Spaces

Part 3: Arieki

Just...ignore the...hair...or...whatever the fuck that is. Someone must be going through a mid life crisis. Or maybe he has that so he can fish if he ever gets stranded alone in the Amazon.
