Comic Con: Cosplay On Parade!

Most Cosplay is like a train wreck. Try as you might, you just can't stop looking at it, and most of the time, you see things (and folds) you don't want to see. For example, did you know Spider Man wears a FANNY PACK when fighting crime? I didn't either, until I checked out MaximumPC's Comic Con Cosplay Extravaganza!

But at any rate, definitely click the link above for some highs and lows from this year's Comic Con.

My personal fave:

Because no convention would be complete without a visit from Pedo Bear. He's my, an hero.

Movies: Goku Revealed & Thor & the A-Team as well!?

Too much information (read: rumours) to process so early on a Monday morning! But I am such a suckah for train wreck movies based on comics news.

So first off, let's discuss the "Dragonball" incoming craptavaganza.

The comments by people who've seen the pic are pretty favourable but...this may also be their first adventure onto the big ole' intranets. Or as Flavor Flav would put it, "SAY WHAAAA!?"

And wasn't Emily Rossum in a real movie with Gerald Butler? (Phantom of the Opera.) But I guess now she gets to be Bulma. Same with Chow Yun Fat. Pay them bills!

Yes, we all know things are going to be quality when they hire from the immense talent pool that is the cast of the Real World.

Dragonball-live posted what appears to be our first look at Justin Chatwin as Goku. The scan was said to be taken from Shonen Jump #24 in Japan.

UPDATE: Higher quality scan thanks to Sour Mikan. Click to enlarge.

Sour Mikan informs me that the scan is from Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 24 which is available officially this Monday.

I saw the same picture at Shonen Jump Spoiler forum in Japan.
#24 is available at Monday officialy.
I hope official website will update something at Monday.

Along with that he also provides us with a translation.

I’ll grant you a wish…!!

Rumor after rumor but [now] Dragonball live action movie finally comes true !
Director James Wong of Final Destination, and producer the revolutionary film maker Stephen Chow of Shaolin Soccer. Remarkable casts are Son Goku is Justin Chatwin who played Tom Cruise’s son at Steven Spielberg movie War of the Worlds, and Master Roshi is Chow yun-fat of Pirates of the Caribbean.

All Dragonball fan’s wish are granted now ! We will continue to offer new information to you on Jump Cinema Island !

And the Chinese character on the Goku’s T-shirts is “Un”(means luck, fate, fortune)

We’ll keep you updated on any new developments. And while your processing this new information, why not check out the newly revamped crew page.

And now for some A-Team and Thor news courtesy of the Latino Review:

Lemme cut to the chase. Here's what the studios would like to see:

Thor = Brad Pitt!

Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith = Bruce Willis!

I'm actually all for those two choices, so hopefully one of them gets confirmed soon.

Moar Super Heroes Incoming!

According to SuperHeroHype:

Marvel Studios Sets Four More Release Dates!
Source: Marvel Entertainment
May 5, 2008

Marvel Entertainment released their first quarter report to its shareholders this morning to coincide with the announcement about the success this past weekend of Marvel Studios' first production Iron Man, which grossed an estimated $104.2 million domestically and over $201 million worldwide. The announcement included an update of Marvel Studios' feature film slate with the already-rumored Iron Man 2 announced for a release on April 30, 2010, followed by three more movies for the summers of '10 and '11. Matthew Vaughn's Thor is set for a release on June 4, 2010, and The First Avenger: Captain America (the working title) will kick off the summer of 2011 on May 6, followed by the highly-anticipated and foreshadowed The Avengers scheduled for July 2011. (Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is also listed as being in development with no release date set.)

In a conference call this morning, Marvel Studios' David Maisel said that Iron Man 2 will be used to introduce Thor. Regarding more "Hulk" movies, Maisel said "We definitely plan on continuing." He added that development continues on Spider-Man 4. "I can't give any other updates other than to say it's in development and everybody's excited about 'Spider-Man 4,'" he said.

With that in mind, one can start expecting a lot more announcements in the coming months about creative teams and casting for those movies including who might direct the Captain America and Avengers movies. (Whomever plays Steve Rogers AKA Captain America presumably will be making two movies at once.)

T T T T Trainwreck coming our way! And I can't wait!

New Iron Man Trailer?

Although it's supposed to show during the Super Bowl, but Marvel has it first in HD. It's longer than the previous one I believe, and even if it ain't, the thing looks hella' tight the second (or fifth) time around. I just hope it's as good as it looks.

The new trailer:

Books: Baltimore,: Or the Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire

I recently read this book and wanted to recommend it to anyone out there who likes "Hellboy," the comic version of "30 Days of Night," and just...comics and good dark stories in general.

Here's the little blurb about it from Amazon:

Lord Henry Baltimore lies wounded in no-man's-land on World War I's western front. As the carrion eaters come to feast, the injured soldier sees an impossibility—the dead eating the dead. But the ravening monstrosity comes to him, further mangles his wounded leg, and claims Lord Henry as his enemy. Lord Henry realizes that a virulent plague that only he now knows about is hiding among the other plagues of the time. The vampire—for that is what the battlefield monster is—destroys his family, but Baltimore maintains steadfast pursuit of it. He summons three friends also experienced with the supernatural to await him at an old inn. They tell one another of their first meetings with Lord Henry, thereby disclosing what the vampire has inflicted on the peer since the incident on the western front. Lord Henry arrives with what is necessary to finally banish the vampiric plague. Even after a fight to near death, some damage cannot be healed. Prolific dark fantasist Golden's popular style is impeccable, and horror comics creator Mignola's copious illustrations confirm the tale's dark atmosphere throughout, from no-man's-land to the old inn to the houses and graveyards where the vampire is encountered. A new classic of vampire literature.
Now this is an "illustrated novel" so there are PICTUAHS to distract people who have trouble getting through the month's "Game Pro" done by Mike Mignola (me likey his his scratchy, hectic ass style.) The creepy black and white block cut rendering of Baltimore and his bad-ass leg inside the book is awesome.

Also check out Christopher Golden's personal site for excerpts about the book:

It's good! (I previously read Golden's "Of Saints & Shadows" series a while ago and I remember liking it then but story wise, I prefer "Baltimore.")

Oh Noes!? No Justice League Movie?

According to RT that in turn quotes IESB:

Justice League of America Pushed Back?

Warner Bros. execs rumored to be unhappy with the cast.
Remember how Warner Bros. was supposed to make a big announcement a couple of weeks ago, introducing the cast of George Miller's Justice League of America? What happened with that, anyway?

According to a report published yesterday at IESB, all is not well behind the scenes of JLA -- in fact, the site's sources say that production has been delayed. From the article:

"Justice League is indeed in danger of not starting production on time, and maybe even getting scrapped altogether. The concerns are that the script is not ready to go in front of cameras, and also that the budget is getting a bit out of control. The WGA strike has proven to be Kryptonite to Superman and friends."

IESB says the Justice League cast is "locked," but one of the report's sources claims that "the execs know it's mediocre." The scoop from another tipster is similarly grim:

"Justice League has been pushed back to at least April or May, and possibly a start date as late as June or July...that is, of course, if the movie doesn't get scrapped altogether."

It bears mentioning that the JLA gossip has always run hot and cold -- one week, we're hearing rumors about the picture being fast-tracked; the next, it's just the opposite -- but IESB's Justice League sources have proven fairly reliable thus far. Maybe we won't be hearing that big casting announcement for awhile.

Could it be that someone in Hollywood put their foot down? Did Hell freeze over!? (Like the Travelocity Gnome says) "Am I going to die now?"

Please don't can the "GI Joe" movie too. Someone told me Marlon Wayans wants to play Heavy Duty but on IMDB it's listed as another actor....

p.s. The Baroness...is Sienna Miller!!???

Ahhhhhhhhh!! MISCHIEF!! CITY ON FIRE!

"Justice League of America": Jessica Biel = Wonder Woman? (Hoooo.)

Oh oh, what now!?

First there were the "Street Fighter" rumours about her playing Chun Li (WTF?) and now this! Bitch is everywhere!

Justice League of America Spoilers!
UGO has the scoop!
by Jeff Giles | September 26, 2007

George Miller's Justice League of America is on Warner Bros.' production fast track -- and so, apparently, is the film's rumor mill.

Hot on the heels of the news that Jessica Biel is in talks to join the JLA cast as Wonder Woman, UGO brings us a barrelful of spoilers -- supposedly cribbed directly from the script, which was read by a "deep cover source."

You know the drill by now: We aren't going to share them here (in fact, we're studiously avoiding them), but for those of you who just can't resist the spoiler's siren song, that link below is all that stands between you and pre-release Justice League nirvana. Happy reading!

Anyhow, here are the spoiler links in case you want to know which heroes have made the line up:

Spoiler 1
Spoiler 2

Once again, it's not like I don't like Jessica Biel but...I don't see it! I just don't see it!
