For those of you craving mecha and lots of grinding, it's back according to its suuper duper Official AOA News Page:

Age of Armor Starts Its Open Beta Test on October 20, 2007

Age of Armor had a successfully end of its Close Beta Test, and everyone are expecting the Open Beta Test, to cure their eager, we decide to open the Open Beta test than we have planned. The Open Beta test will start on October 20, 2007.

Age of Armor, Future War, comes now!

YEAH!!

...

Okay, maybe not for me. I guess that makes me old-fashioned.

RIP: Age of Armor

Dadadaaaaaaaaaaaaa....

Snail Game, as much as I love your staff, your grind is too much. Even using your super duper double experience tickets, I get bored too fast fighting for 1/10 of an experience bar. But worse, you took away mah lootz! (I guess, they lowered the drop rates as well.) Therefore, I must regretfully (not really) bid adieu to thee and remove you from mah hard drive.

So, to recap,

THE PROS:

--Free to play with Item Shop for experience/cosmetic items.
--Better than average customization for a F2P, i.e., better than 2Moons (which had none.)
--2001 SNES Graphics.
--Mecha/Giant Robot Theme.

THE CONS:

--The Grind.
--The Grind.
--Lack of loots!
--Lack of quests.
--Lack of anything to do other than grind.
--Whack ass crafting system.
--THE GRIND.

What AOA is more fun than:

--Getting run over by a Mack Truck.
--The Nanny Diaries (the movie.)

What AOA is less fun than:

--Shucking corn.
--Its Official Boards.

However, if they raise the experience to at least 1.5x, it wouldn't be so bad. (And the lootz drop as well, because as we all know, LOOTZ can turn any game into supah dupah fun.)

Age of Armor: Loots Happiness

I love loots. I don't give a damn if it's Beta and our characters will be wiped. I love LOOTZ!! So when Snail cranked up the drop rates for "Gold Weekend," to celebrate the opening of the "Age of Armor" 2nd Beta Test...

Sometimes, I get so much loots that while I'm sorting out the junk from the good stuff it disappears on me. *tear* And as if that weren't enough, you get bonuses (a bouncing ball that appears at certain experience intervals) that pop up to give you...MORE LOOTZ!! (Or Experience, or Warp Cards.)

NO WHAMMIES!! (Even the crappy firework loots are worth 1500 credits.)

The original link posted by Dinosaur Girl, the Admin was actually the wrong link so she's updated to a FileFront Link instead which I've posted below:

http://files.filefront.com/AOAEngBetaTest2ndexe/;8436461;;/fileinfo.html

Extra Link Added 8/30/07 & 16:00 CST:

http://files.filefront.com/AOAEngBetaTest2ndexe/;8438202;;/fileinfo.html

Start your download now so you can play on Friday, August 31st @ 7:00 PM (-5 GMT). Oh, and remember to get your keys if you do not have them already.

I am using the Filefront one and that is actually working compared to the torrents and DinoGirl's original link. Should be done in a few hours due to everyone downloading all at once.

You can also download the client from the site itself at: AOAUS.COM (It's still leads to File Front!)

MOAR ARTICLES:

Three Kingdoms, Three Transformers
--An article where Snail pretty much admits that they ripped off the Transformers despite what idiot fanbois say.

Imagination Unchained--Let your imagination run wild and win prizes from Snail Game by designing your own Transformer.

This is pretty cool though. Someone made a paper Bumblebee:

HURRY!! Make one and win something foah me! HURRYYYY!! They said you can use beer cans. I don't drink, but someone can sacrifice and make it for me.

Age of Armour: New Website (But No Client Yet)

Okies,

The buzz on the official AOA boards was 8/24/07 and dutifully, I stalked said page. They have indeed, updated their website and the front page reads, "STATUS: CLOSED BETA." However, the links to the downloads do not work and there's no news yet on the official boards. (I had to re-register because I don't remember my password and it's only been like a month or two. Sad face. I guess I am getting old.)

Anyhoo, right now, the hot topic of the forums be the strangely rounded, yellow VW bug looking like "transformer" that decorates the website header.

Basically, someone said, "Hey that looks like Bumblebee. Is that copyright infringement? Just a warning so you don't get in trouble."

But thanks to our mod, cyber7CHINK aka Cyber7ron, the conflict was laid to rest:

The Chinese site and original client has been around for a while. If anything was going to happen, it would have happened by now. YOu also have to think about something. Do they look exactly like the transformers. I know you "seen" Bumblebee, but does it exactly look like Bumblebee?

From what I see, its a hybrid of 2 versions of Bumblebee. The G1 and another toy version of him. Much like all the other ones that look like the Transformers you think they are.

If you noticed, the Volkswagon is much like vehicle mode of the G1 Bumblebee, but the Armor mode looks like the Bumblebee classic version (similar to a Honda CRX). Since there really isnt a actual Bumblebee that is both versions in one, it can be a AoA armor model.

*snicker*

You be the judge:

Me? I just like the faux drama.

Age of Armor: 2nd Closed Beta August 24th, 2007 (Maybe)

Today my guildie and I, because we were bored as hell (damn you TR for having scheduled play sessions), we continued to stalk Age of Armor's new closed beta release date. After laughing at the stupid people on the forums who didn't believe Robotech was actually Macross, it seems that the 2nd Closed Beta will start this Friday, August 24, 2008. Be aware, this is based on our snooping around super Engrish forums and not an official date. It was the only number listed after a hilarious, but extensive search.

Heck, I even double checked the email I got from AOA inviting me back to play (from a Hotmail address for some reason) since I was a "dear old player" but nothing concrete in that either.

Anyhoo, the new client will be released in time to start the closed beta so don't download the one out there now per the website. The new client will support the new 3D engine to allow for the transforming mechs.

Here are the articles:

http://www.aoaus.com/news/cu_news/2007-08-16/244.html
http://www.aoaus.com/news822(t).htm

I'll check back until Friday to see if the rumours come to fruition.

Age of Armor: TRANSFORM!!

First and foremost, I just want to say that Snail Game cracks me the fuck up. I love their customer service, I love their mods, I love their Engrish and I love how bubbly they are. That being said, enjoy:

The differences of AoA

You have seen Transformers before, and you have seen Gundam as well. But have you ever become one of them? Or have you ever fought side by side with those legendary heroes? Well, there is little chance for you to go to Hollywood to join in the movie. But now, you have a very very good choice here. Join us in the Age of Armors; here you can fully enjoy the fun of transforming.

In Age of Armors, there is no magic, but there some this more powerful than magic. In AoA, there is no dragon, but there are monsters that far stronger than the dragon. Kill a dragon can bring you fames, honors, but they would disappear after your leaving. In AoA, there is no need to kill a dragon, for you have some more important things to do. The nation need your aid, the nation need you to fight for glory, fight for freedom, fight for win. In AoA, you are not fighting alone, you need to join in the region and fight with fellows. In AoA, you can really experience the war of Hi-tech. In AoA, There is no need to worry about your equipment, as the region will provide you a series of armors, what you need is to improve your fight skill and stand to the last, use your laser guns, missile laugher, or photon blazes to destroy your enemies. Or your can transform your armors into another battle shape, a wagon or an airplane or even a Dinosaur to slash your enemies into pieces. Come on and join us in AoA, you are not going to repeat an epic, but to establish your own epic!

Now that UniversalCentury (The Gundam MMO) is ending its service at the end of October, AoA might be the only place (for a while) to get some transformation action.

I saw some pics and it's sort of like, an homage to "Beast Wars." Wonder if they'll release video of it soon?

Age of Armor Beta Postponed...Until the End of August, 2007

Per the official AoA site:

2nd CB Delays untill the end of August

Dear players,
As our servers in North America are very stable and the cable service is also splendid, we decide to add a dungeon area named “Exotic Planet” for those lvl15+ players.

For this reason, we have to upgrade our client to add the new item in it. Here we want to say sorry that the 2nd close beta test will be postponed. We do not want this happen, but to make sure everyone can enjoy the best content of AoA, we made this decision after serious discussion. We do not want to keep anyone waiting; we expect to see you in our game too. Many interesting activities have been arranged to make up the time that we have to wait for.

Thanks for your support to AoA. We will do our best to provide you an interesting game.

Visit the link above to get a peek at the new mobs featured on the "Exotic Planet." I can only assume from the text above that they've moved their test servers State side which hopefully...HOPEFULLY...will mean reduced lag on our end. During the 1st Closed Beta I think I was lucky not to rubber band every 3 steps I took.

I'll keep checking up on this!

Age of Armor 2nd Beta Starts! August 6th, 2007

"Age of Armour," the F2P Mech MMORPG from Snail Games is opening up it's 2nd Round of Beta. If you like big robots, games like "Virtua On"/"Armored Core" or anime like "Evangelion," or "Raxephon," this might be the F2P for you until FASA decides that we all want to see "MechWarrior Online" instead of some goddamn crappy ass "Shadow Run" FPS (heck, I'd play a Shadow Run MMORPG.)

Anyhow, getting a code is simple if you know basic arithmetic. If you can't get an account for this game, there is no help for you:

http://www.aoaus.com/news/up_news/getcode.html

Account give-aways for the 2nd Closed Beta starts!

We sincerely welcome you to join our 2nd closed beta of Age of Armor. To get an account and its password, you just need to fill the security code into the box and then click “Get an Account”. You do not need to register or get a CD-key.
Instructions:

1. The account and password you get can only be used to login Age of Armor.
2. You can use the account to login the game directly.
3. All rights are reserved by Snailgame.

Now, I played during the first go around, and if not for the HORRENDOUS rubber banding/lag (the server was based in China), it was pretty fun to put shoulder mounted rockets on your mech and blast the hell out of stuff. Also, the GMs, staff were SO SUPER nice it was great. I put in a bug report (OMGZ!? REALLY!?) and the thanks made me all tingly inside.

I'll update once I check out the 2nd Beta but get your accounts while you can. See you there!
